Preferences

Preferences, "General" Tab:

"Automatically start X-IM when Windows starts" -- Check this item if you want X-IM to start when you start up your computer, and reside in the system tray, allowing you to send and receive messages. Whenever X-IM starts you must enter your passphrase in order to complete the login process.

"Mask input on Passphrase Entry Form" -- Check this item to protect your passphrase from being seen on your screen as you type it during login.

(The disabled options on this window have not yet been implemented, but will be in the next release of X-IM)

"Local Display Name" -- This is your name as you want to see it locally on your own messages and chat text. This isn't sent to anyone else.

"Alerts" Tab:

Change these selections to customize how you want to be alerted when new messages, chat invitations or memos arrive. Disabled checkboxes represent options that cannot be changed in the current version of the software. To customize the actual sounds associated with X-IM alerts, from the Windows Start Menu, select "Settings", then "Control Panel", then "Sounds and Multimedia". Then find the X-IM sounds in the Sounds and Multimedia Properties window and associate them with different files, if desired.

"Filters" Tab:

By default "Accept all messages" is selected, which means that anyone who knows your email address can send you an X-IM message. People who you haven't communicated with before on X-IM will be automatically added to your contact list. To restrict those who can send you a message to only those who are already on your contact list, select the second option, "Only accept messages from existing members of my contact list." To only restrict certain individuals from contacting you, select the last option, "Accept all messages except those from the following IDs" and list their ID(s) (their email address(es)) in the entry box below.

When a restricted user tries to contact you, they will receive a message telling them that their message couldn't be delivered because of your filter settings.

"Passphrase" Tab:

The "Change Passphrase" button will let you change your passphrase. You must be online to perform this function. Your existing local files will be re-encrypted using your new passphrase.
